Good Neighbor Pharmacy And Keiko Matsui Partner To Benefit National Bone Marrow Donor Program

07/31/01

Orange, CA - July 31, 2001 - Good Neighbor Pharmacy®, and Keiko Matsui, the top-selling jazz keyboardist currently ranked number one by Billboard magazine, have joined forces to help raise awareness and funding for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). Through a series of sponsored concerts spanning three continents, and through the production and distribution of a specially-produced CD, Ms. Matsui and Good Neighbor Pharmacy will help elevate the public's awareness and raise funds for marrow donors, especially in the Asian, African-American and Hispanic communities.

"Healthcare is our chief concern. Our sponsorship of Ms. Matsui's Deep Blue World Tour gives our pharmacies the opportunity to educate the public and help give more visibility to this health-related cause. We are proud to lend our national network to further their efforts," stated Dave Wright, National Director for Good Neighbor Pharmacy.

A portion of proceeds raised from Ms. Matsui's Deep Blue Tour will directly benefit the foundation, as will funds collected from the distribution of her special "Gift of Life" CD, which will be available at retail Good Neighbor Pharmacy locations around the nation. More than 2,000 independently owned and operated community pharmacies comprise the Good Neighbor Pharmacy network, which was recently selected as the nation's 7th most popular drug store chain in 2000 Retail Pharmacy Digest. The CD contains four cuts, two of which are new, and will be available immediately for a $5.00 donation. It will also be available on the myGNP.com website, as well as at select music retailers.

The songs to be part of the Electronic Platform CD will include "Hope," two other songs from Keiko's catalog and a new version of the song "Water for the Tribe" from her upcoming release. The EP will also include a multimedia platform, allowing users to view video footage, photographs, and animated text on their computers. The video portion will include messages from supporters of The NMDP, Keiko Matsui and other celebrities.

The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) is the international leader in the facilitation of unrelated marrow and blood stem cell transplantation. A non-profit organization based in Minneapolis, Minn., the NMDP facilitates unrelated marrow and blood stem cell transplants for patients with life-threatening diseases who do not have matching donors in their families.

Since its founding in 1986, the NMDP has facilitated approximately 12,000 unrelated transplants for patients with blood disorders, such as leukemia and aplastic anemia, as well as certain immune system and genetic disorders. The NMDP is the only organization that offers a single point of access for all sources of stem cells used in transplantation: marrow, peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood. At any given time, the NMDP offers hope to more than 3,000 patients searching its Registry.
